Jack Glenn papers, 1922-1981.

Collection contains scripts, correspondence, and research files related to the "March of Time" series and Jack Glenn, Inc. productions. Prominent clients and corporations for which Glenn made (primarily promotional) films include YMCA, General Electric, McGraw-Hill, and Chrysler. Much of the collection also includes correspondence, production files, and other material related to Glenn's feature-length movie "The House of the Seven Gables." The collection also contains many files related to Glenn's membership and involvement in the Screen Directors Guild and Screen Directors International Guild. Also present is correspondence between Glenn and Louis de Rochement. Personal photographs and photographs related to Glenn's film career are also contained in the collection. A large portion of the collection is audio and visual materials, including reel-to-reel audio and film reels. While some of this material is personal (including home movies), most of it is related to Glenn's career as a director and producer. Some March of Time films are present, as are other promotional films and documentaries Glenn made for various corporations and organizations. A large bulk of the film is related to Glenn's movie "The House of the Seven Gables."

Louis de Rochemont was a film producer who created the "March of Time" newsreel series. He was also a pioneer in camera technology and developed projects using the Cinerama technique. De Rochemont began his professional career as a filmmaker for the U.S. Navy in the 1920s. He initiated "March of Time" in 1934. Jack Glenn (1904-1976), a journalist and film producer, graduated from Rice University in 1925 and worked as a reporter for the Galveston (Texas) "Daily Reporter" from 1925-1927. In 1927, he was a reporter for the New York "Herald-Tribune" in Paris where he met Louis de Rochemont, producer of the "March of Time" newsreels.
